Meet the Team - Baptiste

This month you get to meet Baptiste, one of the men behind scenes making sure your apartments are in full working order...

Name: Baptiste

Position: Technician. I am one of the men behind the scenes. You don’t often see me but I look after all the apartment maintenance, making sure everything is working for when you arrive.

Years in company: 4 years now! It’s gone very quickly. As they say ‘time flies when you’re having fun’!

Experience: I originally studied a BTS Commercial (Brevet de technicien supérieur - a French higher education professional certificate), then specialised in building work.

How long have you been in La Plagne? I’ve been coming to La Plagne since I was 14 years old with my family. It’s one of the best ski resorts I have been to, hence why I am still here ;).

Where is your favourite place to eat in resort (and why)? Ok, if you are on the mountain for the day, I suggest you try Le Forperet in Montalbert. It’s got a large sun terrace which is perfect for those sunny days! They do great ‘typical’ Savoyard mountain food like Croziflette, or their Côte de Boeuf is pretty good too. For an evening out, the Vin et 1 has a great atmosphere, with some of the best burgers in La Plagne. You have to try their Raclette burger! If you are after a takeaway, Ti & Yu do an excellent pizza - a favourite of mine is the Forestiere. The Vache Rouge is another great place to go! Then if you are looking for something a little more refined around the edges, in Plagne Centre you need to eat at least once at the Petit Comptoir. Everything is 100% fresh, homemade, delicious and at a very good price.

Do you ski, snowboard or both? Up until I was 18 years old, I was 100% a skier, then I found snowboarding! After 3 days I fell in love with it and could go more or less everywhere on the mountain (I use to do a lot of skateboarding when I was younger, so it came very easily to me). For 15 years I never looked back, until last year when I wanted to try ski touring (which is great by the way!). Because of Covid, this season I’ve done a lot of ski touring and am very pleased I have rediscovered skiing, however snowboarding will always be my favourite.

Which is your favourite piste to ski/snowboard down (and why)?
Any of the south facing slopes which come down from the top of the Verdons towards Champany  are definitely my favourite. The sun is often shinning on you when you head down the Kamikaze (red), Hara-kiri (red) or the Bozelet (blue) and they have the best views in town. No other ski resort I have visited before has this. It feels magical!

What’s the best thing about working at Oxygène Immobilier (and why)? When I was looking for a job in La Plagne, I came across Oxygène Immobilier just by chance, and loved the look of their apartments. After my first year, I got on really well with everyone in our team and I knew I wanted to continue working here. We’re like a little family, everyone is very welcoming, professional and extremely cool.

How do you like to start your day? With tea and scrambled eggs (very English I know!).

What was your first job? When I was 18 years old I worked as a roofer for my uncle’s business. After that every summer or holidays I ended helping him out. I suppose this is where my passion for working on buildings began.

What lead you to this career? Before I worked for Oxygène Immobilier, I suppose you could say I had a ‘normal’ job and life. One day I decided ‘life is too short’ and I followed my dream of coming to the mountains of La Plagne. Once I knew this job was for me, I then put another of my passions (motorbiking) in place and officially from this summer I am a motorbike tour guide for TrailRando. It’s great as I get to join 2 of my favourite things, snowboarding and motorbiking, together.

Fun fact about yourself? My first passion in life is motocross, and I have dabbled in a few competitions in the past.

Have you got a favorite expression or joke? Life is a succession of choices, it's up to you to make the right ones.
