Why you should ski this Spring - A mountain full of fun!

There are so many reasons why you should come to La Pagne during March or April. From great spring snow, longer days, sunshine, parties to cheaper deals, here we are to give you a little insight into what you can expect from a spring ski holiday.

Spring snow
Snow conditions are definitely different in spring time in comparison to the beginning of the season. The sun melts the top layer making it soft, then with the cold altitude temperatures the top layer freezes creating a thin crust that cracks when you slide over it. In our eyes, spring skiing (or snowboarding) is simply wonderful and ideal for making long slow turns. We’re not saying you don’t get that fresh powder skiing in March or April, as La Plagne is know to have large dump downs even at the end of the season. When this happens, you simply get the best of both worlds!

Sunshine & longer days
In March and April the sun shines and for longer, and temperatures get warmer! That’s right, no more freezing hands or feet while passing your days on the slopes. You’ll be able to sit out on the sun terrace longer too. Beware of the goggle marks through and make sure you put on lots of suncream. You can even enjoy picnics on the slopes without having to stuff food in your mouth because you’re too cold and need to get moving. Yes, we’ve all been there…

April = ideal for late starters
In April, if you are not a morning person, and not fussed about doing first runs at 9am, then this is the time for you. Conditions can sometimes be a bit harder first thing in the morning, however it soon starts to soften up and from 10am onwards it is perfect. Be careful with the slope you choose, as there are specific slopes better to take at different times of the day. Book yourself a private lesson with Oxygène Ski and ask your instructor to show you these secret slopes. It’s 100% worth the investment!

End of season events
La Plagne is a ski resort not shy of great end of season events. In April we have the fantastic Sublicimes which lightens up 5 mountain peaks with free activities and entertainment for all the family. And there is also the Super Slalom, the longest Slalom in the world, created by 2 La Plagne professional skiers Julien Lizeroux a World Cup alpine ski racer and Julien Regnier a French freestyle skier. This event is also open to anyone wishing to join, however you must sign up beforehand as places are limited…

Party Atmosphere
At the end of the ski season it’s often time to party! With the longer days and more sunshine, on slope restaurants and bars can stay open that little bit longer. You’ll often find live music or outdoor entertainment around the mountain. In La Plagne we have places like Le Bonnet in Bellecote, known for installing a water slide when temperatures get warmer. The Bergerie in Plagne Village is also a great on slope après-ski bar, and Les Inversens at the top of the Roche de Mio, often puts on a really good party with live DJs, a BBQ and an oyster bar.

Reduced prices and less people on the slopes
Yes, you can save a little while holidaying in spring time! March is the springs version of January! Prices are often lower for accommodation and activities saving you some money. There are also less people on the slopes in comparison to February. Less people equals smaller queues meaning you get to cover more slope space over the day.

An Oxygène Immobilier Easter idea… egg huts in the snow
What’s better that going on a ski holiday with family and friends? Nothing, but having Easter in the mountains can make your holiday even more fun. Why not celebrate Easter with your children by do a chocolate egg hunt in the snow. They’ll definitely remember it for years to come.
